Short Answers
Two hundred words to say ten. One rule - answer first, then stop - applied to every reply, in every chat.
First sentence to type
“Nothing to type. It applies from your next message.”
What it does
- Puts the answer in the first sentence and matches the length to the question: a yes/no question gets a yes or a no.
- Cuts the restatement of your question, the announcement of what it is about to do, and the summary of what it just said.
- Asks in one line before going long, instead of spending 500 words without being asked.
What it will not do
- Will not shorten code, documents or drafts you asked it to write - those are output, not chat.
- Will not drop a warning that matters to save words, and will not stay short when you ask for depth.
Install - three minutes, pick one
- claude.ai, Settings, Personalization - paste it where your response preferences go. Start here: it applies to every chat with nothing to remember later.
- claude.ai, Customize, Skills, Add, Upload skill - upload short-answers.zip if you want it on demand rather than always on.
- claude.ai, Projects, Instructions, or CLAUDE.md in Claude Code or Cowork - when you want short answers in one project only.
Needs
Any Claude plan. No profile, no examples, no setup questions - it applies from your next message.
After this file
The next file comes out the same way, one at a time. The short videos show each one working before it is released.
This file is free and asks for nothing in return - no email, no account. Memory availability differs by plan and account; if memory is not available in yours, the paste-into-a-project version does the same job.
